As the sky fills with the smoke
of a dozen uncontrolled fires
I wonder what the meaning is
behind the burning of all we desired

As I inevitably search my soul for meaning behind catastrophe
The answer comes quickly...

Hey Mr. Oil Tycoon, was the damage to your rigs by Katrina
Not enough to make you think again
Are you going to stop with the Arctic?
Hell its obvious you want the whole planet
Cause nothing less than cash will satisfy you

You know, nature has a way of cleansing
Anything that becomes a burden to her
Its happened more than once before
And it is happening again if we don't do something soon

The quake in Indonesia killed off thousands of people.
Katrina was a targeted blow
At earth's greatest power
To show how nature can prove even America to be a coward.

And now an entire state has been set ablaze
The emphasis on the rich and well to do
Was surely not undue.

Hey Mr. Oil Tycoon, was the damage to your rigs by Katrina
Not enough to make you think again
Are you going to stop with the Arctic?
Hell its obvious you want the whole planet
Cause nothing less than cash will satisfy you

I'm not sorry about your house in Malibu
Because this might be the only way to get through to you
that we can't  keep going on like this.

Don't you realize that the earth can move beneath your feet
and that mountain is covering a boiling stew?
Surely houses burn brightly
but that not the only way to kill you.

Hey Mr. Oil Tycoon, was the damage to your rigs by Katrina
Not enough to make you think again
Are you going to stop with the Arctic?
Hell its obvious you want the whole planet
Cause nothing less than cash will satisfy you

While you're are at it
Why don't you go burn some more mahogany firewood.
Or decorate your walls with tiger pelts
While you wife gets some new mink shoes.
Hell don't stop with the gold wrist watch
Go burn an entire forest
Just to make room for you.

Do you think you can go on forever ?
Raping the earth of her story
Written in those rocks you mine
Is gaia's memory.

Hey Mr. Oil Tycoon, was the damage to your rigs by Katrina
Not enough to make you think again
Are you going to stop with the Arctic?
Hell its obvious you want the whole planet
Cause nothing less than cash will satisfy you

All of your money
And all your wife's shoes
Wont save you when we run out of clean water
And as you are choking to death
In your own foul mess
Don't blame it on anyone other than you.

Sure, you need to turn a profit
But that does not mean you don't have to learn with it
All the money you make,
Could be put to better use
Giving us the only option we have left to pursue.

Hey Mr. Oil Tycoon, was the damage to your rigs by Katrina
Not enough to make you think again
Are you going to stop with the Arctic?
Hell its obvious you want the whole planet
Cause nothing less than cash will satisfy you
I'm sorry if this offends you, but really, after seeing the entire sky over my city filled with the smoke of thousands of burning forests and homes , I could not help to put two and two together and realize that nature obviously doesn't like the USA. Perhaps there is a reason why? I think so. But I just write songs.

If you are going to lay charges against me saying I have no sympathy for those who lost everything, I would like you to know that I feel sorry for many of them.I certainly would not want to lose my home, and I wouldn't wish that to happen to almost anyone.

As to the people like the metaphorical "Mr. Oil Tycoon", you got what you deserved. Perhaps it is time to start using your money to fund change, and not fund your latest yacht.

For some of the "hoi peli", this will hit home.......metaphorically speaking and deservedly so. Nice job, Flare and might I suggest you read "Mona Lisa's And Mad Hatters" in my gallery, I think you'll find a parallel of sorts there.
